About Us
The United States of Leafland, more commonly referred to as The Leafland Union, The USL, or simply Leafland, is a self-declared micronation situated on the island of Guernsey, located just off the coast of northern France in the English Channel. The micronation was officially founded in 2022, emerging from a desire to create a unique, sustainable, and progressive society. Despite being a relatively young entity, Leafland has navigated numerous internal and external challenges, including multiple conflicts, and remains a resilient and active participant in international micronational organizations, such as the UGMO (United Guernsey Micronational Organization), where it continues to attend meetings to this day. The government of the United States of Leafland operates as a Presidential Democracy. Political power is vested in the President, who is elected by the citizens of Leafland. However, one of the unique aspects of Leafland’s political system is the legislative process carried out by the Members of the States of Leafland (MSLs). These elected representatives deliberate on the issues and policies they believe will most benefit the country. Decisions regarding the nation’s future are made during sessions held at The Great National Court, a central venue where MSLs engage in debates and vote on matters affecting the country’s growth. Unlike traditional parliamentary systems, the jury in these legislative proceedings consists solely of MSLs, not the general citizenry, ensuring that elected officials directly represent the people’s interests in national decision-making.
In terms of foreign policy, Leafland has adopted a proactive stance aimed at preserving its environment, protecting its citizens, and safeguarding the well-being of future generations. One of the cornerstone policies of this approach is the complete ban on plastic. This sweeping ban extends to all plastic materials and products, aligning with the nation’s commitment to environmental sustainability and reducing waste that could harm its pristine natural surroundings. The policy reflects Leafland’s dedication to creating a cleaner, greener, and more eco-conscious society.
Moreover, Leafland is also vigilant about protecting its local ecosystem from invasive species, particularly the catfish, which has been identified as a potential threat to the island’s aquatic habitats. In an effort to preserve the delicate balance of local biodiversity, the government has enacted strict measures to prohibit the introduction and spread of catfish in its waters. This is part of a broader set of animal laws designed to mitigate the risk of animal-borne diseases such as rabies, which could compromise the health, safety, and overall happiness of the nation’s inhabitants. The government recognizes that a healthy environment is essential to maintaining not only the nation's quality of life but also its economic stability.
Through these measures, The United States of Leafland aims to build a sustainable future that will ensure the well-being of its citizens, protect the environment, and uphold the values of responsibility and progress. With a growing reputation for its innovative policies, Leafland continues to evolve as a micronation that strives to balance modern governance with environmental stewardship and societal harmony.
